More than one indoor unit?

Most homes with air conditioning in more than one room run a multi-split — several indoor units fed by one outdoor unit. Every indoor unit has its own filters, its own drain and its own coil, so every one of them has to be cleaned and checked. The plan price covers the first; add the rest at £3.99 a month + VAT each on Essential and £5.99 a month + VAT each on Complete.

A worked example. A three-bedroom house with units in two bedrooms and the living room — three indoor units — on AC Complete: £16.99 + £5.99 + £5.99 = £28.97 a month + VAT. Both visits cover all three units, and one report tells you the condition of each.

Plans cover up to four indoor units. Five or more, or any VRV/VRF or commercial system, is priced from a free site survey under Multi & Commercial Care — it usually works out better than stacking a domestic plan that high.

Plans are 12-month agreements paid monthly or annually. We'll count your indoor units and confirm your exact price before you commit to anything.

Or just book a single visit

No commitment and no plan. Fixed prices, confirmed before we start — and you can move onto a care plan at any time afterwards.

What actually happens on a service visit

The same checklist every time, whether you're on a plan or booking a single visit — so this year's report can be compared with last year's.

01

Full inspection

Both units checked for wear, corrosion, damage and anything working loose. Mounting brackets, fan blades, casings and pipe insulation all get looked at, not just the bits you can see from the sofa.

02

Deep clean and filters

Filters cleaned or replaced, and the coils, fans and grilles cleaned so air moves freely again. This is the single biggest recovery of lost efficiency on a neglected system.

03

Electronic leak check

A leak detector is passed over the joints, valves, coils and accessible pipework. It picks up refrigerant escaping long before you'd notice the system struggling.

04

Performance check

We measure the temperature difference between the air going in and the air coming out, along with pipe temperatures. That tells us whether the system is doing what it should — without opening it up.

05

Electrical and controls

Connections, contactors and controls tested for safe operation. Your thermostat and remote settings are checked and corrected, and the system is run in both heating and cooling before we leave.

06

Drainage

Condensate drains cleared and proved. A blocked drain is one of the most common causes of a mid-summer failure, and the most likely to leave a stain on your ceiling.

Why we don't put gauges on your system every year

Plenty of companies advertise a "pressure check" as part of a routine service. It sounds thorough. In practice, connecting gauges to a sealed system vents a small amount of refrigerant every single time, wears the valve you connect to, and risks letting air and moisture into a system designed to keep both out. Do it annually for a decade and the check has done more harm than the thing it was checking for.

So we don't. We find leaks with an electronic leak detector, which is more sensitive than a pressure reading anyway, and we confirm the system is performing correctly by measuring temperature split across the coils. You get a better answer and your system stays sealed.

Gauges come out when there's a reason to use them — a leak we've found, a temperature split that's clearly wrong, or a re-gas. At that point it's a repair, and we'll quote it before we touch anything.

What isn't included

A service is a service. These things are extra on every option above, and we'd rather you knew now than found out on the day.

  • Refrigerant. A top-up isn't a service item. If a system is low it has a leak, and that's the re-gas and leak repair job.
  • Replacement parts. Capacitors, fan motors, circuit boards, sensors — quoted separately and fitted once you've agreed.
  • Repairs. Diagnosis is included in the report; the fix is quoted.
  • Difficult access. Outdoor units on brackets, roofs or above normal ladder reach may carry a surcharge, agreed before we book.
  • Out-of-hours and weekend visits on domestic plans. Available, but priced separately. Commercial contracts can include them.
  • Builders' work. Opening ceilings, cupboards or boxing to reach a concealed unit.
  • Electrical work upstream of the isolator — that's a job for an electrician.
  • R22 systems. We'll inspect and advise, but the refrigerant is banned and can't legally be replaced.
  • Damage from misuse, flooding, power surges or someone else's alterations.
  • Putting right another installer's defective installation free of charge. We'll tell you what we've found and what it takes to fix.

Before you choose

Which plan should I be on? +

If you use your air conditioning seasonally — a few weeks of summer and the occasional cold snap — AC Essential is enough. If it runs most of the year, you rely on it for sleep or work, or it's in a shop or office, AC Complete is worth it for the second visit alone: problems get caught in October rather than during the first heatwave. Any business premises, or a system with five or more indoor units, needs the commercial route so every unit is actually covered.

I've got more than one indoor unit — what does that cost? +

The plan price covers your first indoor unit. Each additional one is £3.99 a month + VAT on AC Essential or £5.99 a month + VAT on AC Complete. So a house with three indoor units on Complete is £16.99 + £5.99 + £5.99 = £28.97 a month + VAT. Every unit is cleaned and checked on every visit, and you get one report covering all of them. Plans go up to four indoor units; beyond that, or for any VRV/VRF or commercial system, a surveyed contract usually works out better and we'll tell you so.

Why does each extra indoor unit cost more? +

Because each one is a separate job. Every indoor unit has its own filters to clean or replace, its own coil and fan to clean, its own condensate drain to clear and prove, and its own controls to test. A three-unit system takes roughly twice as long on site as a single one. We'd rather charge for the time honestly than quote one price and then service one unit properly and glance at the other two.

What's the difference between a full service and the performance check on AC Complete? +

The full service is the complete checklist above — strip down, deep clean, every test. The performance check before winter is shorter and targeted: filters, condensate drain, electronic leak check, controls, and a run in heating mode with the temperature split measured. It's there to catch anything that's drifted since the summer and make sure the system is ready for the season it's about to work hardest in. It isn't a second full service, and we don't pretend it is.

Do I have to have been an ArcticNord customer already? +

No. Most systems we look after were installed by somebody else. The first visit includes a full condition survey so you know exactly what you've got and what state it's in — including anything the original installer didn't do properly. We're approved service partners for Daikin, Mitsubishi, Fujitsu, Samsung, Hisense, Midea and Bosch, and our F-Gas registered engineers service every other major brand.

What happens if it breaks down between visits? +

Call us. Plan holders pay a reduced call-out fee of £69 + VAT rather than the standard £89 + VAT, and go to the front of the queue. That fee covers getting an engineer to you, the first hour on site, and diagnosing the fault. If the job runs beyond the first hour it's charged at the same rate — £69 an hour for plan holders, £89 an hour otherwise — and we'll tell you before the clock goes past the hour, not afterwards. Parts and any return visit are quoted separately, with 10% off on Essential or 15% off on Complete.

How does the hourly rate work? +

The call-out fee covers the visit and the first hour on site. After that it's the same figure per hour — £89 standard, £69 if you're on a care plan — charged in half-hour blocks, not rounded up to the next full hour. Most faults are diagnosed and either fixed or quoted inside that first hour. If it's going to run over, the engineer tells you what's involved and what it will cost before carrying on.

Will servicing keep my manufacturer warranty valid? +

In most cases yes — many manufacturers require documented annual servicing as a condition of the warranty, which is exactly what the written report gives you. Check your own paperwork, because terms vary by brand, and tell us if there's a specific requirement to meet.

Can I switch plans or cancel? +

Plans run for 12 months and you can move up a tier at any point during that. If you've booked a one-off service you can put it towards a plan afterwards — just ask when you book.
