What we actually find in Derby
Three layers of Derby housing stock
Derby's housing falls into three distinct jobs for us. The late-Victorian terrace grids at Normanton, Pear Tree, Litchurch, the Arboretum and the West End are solid brick over suspended timber floors, with single-glazed bays and no cavity to hide anything in — external pipework, careful drilling, and drains that have to be routed somewhere sensible in a small yard. The interwar and post-war semis at Chaddesden, Allestree, Littleover, Mickleover, Alvaston and Sinfin are the easy end: cavity walls, side access, room to stand a condenser. Then there are the city-centre apartment conversions, where the outdoor unit is often shared, mounted high, or sitting on a flat roof with restricted access. Sixteen conservation areas cover parts of the city, and Darley Abbey in particular carries serious heritage constraint on anything externally visible.
Cathedral Quarter offices to Infinity Park
Commercially the city has two personalities. The Cathedral Quarter is independents, solicitors' and accountants' offices and hospitality, much of it in listed or period buildings where the plant has been fitted around the architecture and access is awkward by definition. Derbion and Pride Park are the opposite — modern, large, cassette-and-ducted, with proper roof plant space. Derby's manufacturing base is significant in its own right, with Rolls-Royce and Alstom's rail engineering at Litchurch Lane based in the city and Infinity Park to the south developing as a manufacturing and logistics site. What that mix means in practice is that a servicing schedule here has to cover both a two-head split in a Friar Gate consulting room and a run of cassettes over a shop floor, and neither should be quoted off the same assumption.
Down the A38, and Derwent damp
Derby is about three quarters of an hour from us on the A617 and A38, which makes it comfortable territory for planned maintenance visits and same-week repairs. Geographically it is the flat opposite of Chesterfield — low ground in the Trent basin, on the Derwent, with genuine flood risk in riverside areas. Where a property has taken water before, we look hard at outdoor unit height, cable entries and drain routing. The dense terrace grids also hold heat overnight in summer, so systems in the inner city run longer hours than a rural install and reach their service intervals sooner. Hours run matter more than the calendar.

Good to know before you book a re-gas
Refrigerant work must be done by an F-Gas certified engineer — it's illegal to buy refrigerant or attempt this yourself.
R22 systems (pre-2010) can't legally be recharged — virgin R22 is banned. We'll advise on reclaimed-gas repair, conversion, or replacement.
Lost charge on a fairly new system (2–5 yrs)? It's often an installation defect that may be covered under the installer's workmanship warranty — we'll help you check first.
Prices can rise during summer heatwaves and for hard-to-reach outdoor units (upper floors, brackets).

Most failures are predictable. Regular checks catch small faults before they become expensive, mid-heatwave emergencies.

I'm in one of the Victorian terraces off Normanton Road with no side access — is servicing still straightforward? +
Usually, yes — most of that stock has the condenser on a rear wall bracket over the yard, and we reach it either through the house or from the back passage with a ladder. We'll put sheets down and work clean; a terrace hallway is not a plant room. The service itself is the same either way: filters and indoor coil cleaned, condensate drain flushed and tested, electrical connections checked, then an electronic leak detector run over the joints and performance confirmed by temperature split. If a unit has been sited somewhere genuinely unreachable without scaffold, we will say so before booking rather than turn up and discover it.

How is a multi-split system priced? +
A multi-split service is £164 + VAT (£196.80 including VAT), which covers up to 2 indoor units. Each additional indoor unit is £45 + VAT (£54 including VAT). We'll confirm the exact total based on how many indoor units your system has before any work begins.
What's the difference between a single-split and multi-split system? +
A single-split has one indoor unit connected to one outdoor unit. A multi-split connects several indoor units to one outdoor unit, so it cools multiple rooms. Multi-splits take longer to service because every indoor unit is checked and cleaned — which is why they're priced a little higher.
Do you service all makes and models? +
Yes. We are approved service & installation partners for Daikin, Mitsubishi, Fujitsu, Samsung, Hisense, Midea and Bosch, and our F-Gas registered engineers also service all other major brands — Panasonic, LG, Toshiba and more — whether or not we installed the system originally.
Can I pay monthly instead of all at once? +
Yes. Our care plans spread the cost from £10.99 + VAT (£13.19 including VAT) a month and include priority booking and discounted repairs, so you never face a single large bill — or forget to book your service.
