Air conditioning servicing in Wigston

Two steeples give Wigston its old name — All Saints and St Wistan's — but the town has three distinct parts, and they were built a century apart. Framework-knitters' cottages, Victorian South Wigston, and 1930s semis all need different things from a servicing engineer. ArcticNord services and maintains air conditioning across all three.

A thorough service, not a quick once-over

Every ArcticNord maintenance visit follows a full manufacturer-aligned checklist to keep your system efficient, safe and reliable.

Full system inspection

Indoor and outdoor units checked for wear, corrosion, leaks and damage, with a clear written report on system health.

Deep clean & filters

Filters cleaned or replaced and coils, fans and grilles cleaned to restore airflow, efficiency and hygienic air quality.

Refrigerant leak check

An electronic leak detector is passed over the joints, valves and coils to find refrigerant escaping long before you would notice it. Charge is confirmed by temperature split across the coils — we do not connect gauges to a sealed system as a matter of routine.

Electrical & controls test

Connections, contactors and controls tested for safe operation; thermostat and remote settings checked and calibrated.

Drainage & leak prevention

Condensate drains cleared and tested to prevent water leaks, damp and mould — a common cause of breakdowns.

Service report & advice

You receive a documented report with any recommendations, so you always know the condition of your system.

What we actually find in Wigston

Knitters' cottages to interwar suburbia

Wigston Magna's old core still holds seventeenth- to nineteenth-century framework-knitters' cottages and workshops, and the All Saints Conservation Area is designated over part of it — which means visible external plant and new wall penetrations on the older buildings are constrained, and existing installations tend to be tucked away in positions that compromise airflow. South Wigston is a different animal entirely: a Victorian planned railway and industrial settlement of dense terraces, solid-walled, with limited rear access. Then there is the largest share of the stock, the 1930s semis and post-war estates built as Leicester spread outwards — cavity walls, side passages, and generous space for a condenser. Access is usually the deciding factor in how long a service takes here, and it varies enormously by street.

Bell Street shops and suburban trade

The town centre sits on Leicester Road and the pedestrianised Bell Street, and because Wigston functions as part of Leicester's suburban belt rather than as a freestanding market town, the commercial mix leans heavily towards everyday trade — convenience shops, cafés, takeaways, barbers and salons, dental and medical practices, estate agents and small professional offices. Those are exactly the premises where a single system does all the work and there is no backup if it stops. Salons and treatment rooms in particular run hot and humid and are hard on filters and condensate pumps. There is light industrial and trade counter space around the edges too. Whatever the premises, a shop is not a spare bedroom — occupancy, door openings and equipment heat all change the duty.

South down past Leicester

Wigston is about an hour and a quarter south of us, down past Leicester. The setting is gently rolling south Leicestershire lowland and the town runs straight into Leicester's suburbs, so there is no exposed moorland or coastal edge to contend with — conditions are about as benign as our patch gets. What matters more is urban context. Dense terraces in South Wigston trap heat in summer and restrict airflow around outdoor units; mature trees around Peace Memorial Park and the older residential streets drop leaf litter onto condensers; and noise carries between closely spaced properties, so a rattling fan or a worn compressor mount becomes a neighbour problem quickly.

Book a re-gas

Good to know before you book a re-gas

Refrigerant work must be done by an F-Gas certified engineer — it's illegal to buy refrigerant or attempt this yourself.

R22 systems (pre-2010) can't legally be recharged — virgin R22 is banned. We'll advise on reclaimed-gas repair, conversion, or replacement.

Lost charge on a fairly new system (2–5 yrs)? It's often an installation defect that may be covered under the installer's workmanship warranty — we'll help you check first.

Prices can rise during summer heatwaves and for hard-to-reach outdoor units (upper floors, brackets).

All "+ VAT" prices have VAT added at 20%. Commercial systems, VRV/VRF, refrigeration and chillers are quoted individually — call us for a tailored price.

A neglected system costs more than a serviced one

Lower bills

Clean filters and correct refrigerant levels keep efficiency high — a dirty, undercharged system works harder and costs more to run.

Fewer breakdowns

Most failures are predictable. Regular checks catch small faults before they become expensive, mid-heatwave emergencies.

Healthier air

Servicing removes the dust, bacteria and mould that build up in filters and drains, protecting indoor air quality.

Warranty & compliance

Many manufacturer warranties require annual servicing. Commercial systems also carry F-Gas legal obligations we handle for you.

Serving Wigston & the surrounding area

As well as Wigston itself, our F-Gas registered engineers regularly cover the surrounding towns and suburbs for servicing, maintenance, repairs and installation. Looking to have a new system fitted rather than serviced? See our installation page for Wigston.

Air conditioning servicing FAQs

We're in the All Saints Conservation Area — does that affect a service visit? +

Not the service itself. Cleaning, testing and repairing an existing system is maintenance, not alteration, so conservation area designation does not come into it. It becomes relevant if something needs to move or change — a relocated condenser, a new external route, replacement plant in a different position on an elevation visible from the street. In that case we will say so before starting, and you would need to check with Oadby and Wigston Borough Council. On the older cottages and workshops the practical issue is usually simpler: an outdoor unit put somewhere discreet often has less air than it needs.

Do you cover Wigston? +

Yes — ArcticNord services air conditioning throughout Wigston, Leicestershire and nearby areas including Leicester, Loughborough, Hinckley, Melton Mowbray and Coalville. Call us and we'll book a visit that suits you.

How often should air conditioning be serviced? +

For most homes and offices, once a year is recommended to maintain efficiency, hygiene and reliability. Systems used heavily, or in dusty or commercial environments, may benefit from twice-yearly attention — which is what our AC Complete plan provides: a full service before summer and a shorter performance check before winter.

What does the £119 service include? +

The £119 + VAT (£142.80 including VAT) single-split visit covers a full inspection of the indoor and outdoor units, filter cleaning or replacement, coil and grille cleaning, an electronic refrigerant leak check, a temperature-split performance check, electrical and control testing, condensate drain clearing, and a written service report with any recommendations.

How is a multi-split system priced? +

A multi-split service is £164 + VAT (£196.80 including VAT), which covers up to 2 indoor units. Each additional indoor unit is £45 + VAT (£54 including VAT). We'll confirm the exact total based on how many indoor units your system has before any work begins.

What's the difference between a single-split and multi-split system? +

A single-split has one indoor unit connected to one outdoor unit. A multi-split connects several indoor units to one outdoor unit, so it cools multiple rooms. Multi-splits take longer to service because every indoor unit is checked and cleaned — which is why they're priced a little higher.

Do you service all makes and models? +

Yes. We are approved service & installation partners for Daikin, Mitsubishi, Fujitsu, Samsung, Hisense, Midea and Bosch, and our F-Gas registered engineers also service all other major brands — Panasonic, LG, Toshiba and more — whether or not we installed the system originally.

Can I pay monthly instead of all at once? +

Yes. Our care plans spread the cost from £10.99 + VAT (£13.19 including VAT) a month and include priority booking and discounted repairs, so you never face a single large bill — or forget to book your service.

Do you cover commercial and refrigeration systems? +

Absolutely. ArcticNord maintains commercial air conditioning, VRV/VRF systems, chillers and refrigeration, including F-Gas leak testing and logbook records to keep you legally compliant. Contact us for a tailored maintenance contract.
