What we actually find in Retford
Market Square frontages and railway terraces
The Retford Town Centre Conservation Area covers nearly the whole of the centre, so this is not a case of checking whether a particular street is included — assume it is. Georgian and Victorian frontages round the Market Square, the Town Hall and The Broad Stone mean anything fixed to a visible elevation is scrutinised, and flats above shops are the usual headache: no yard, no discreet wall, and a condenser that has to sit somewhere agreed rather than somewhere convenient. A second conservation area covers the station and the Victorian railway-workers' suburb built around it — solid-wall brick terraces with narrow rear access. Outside those two areas the stock is ordinary twentieth-century and modern housing, and the work gets a lot simpler.
Independent shops and three industrial estates
Retford's trade divides neatly. Half an hour, down in the Idle valley

Refrigerant work must be done by an F-Gas certified engineer — it's illegal to buy refrigerant or attempt this yourself.
R22 systems (pre-2010) can't legally be recharged — virgin R22 is banned. We'll advise on reclaimed-gas repair, conversion, or replacement.

Our shop is on the Market Square — can we have an outdoor unit moved somewhere less visible? +
Possibly, and it is usually the right question to ask. Nearly all of Retford's centre is within the conservation area, so what matters is not just whether a new position works technically but whether it is acceptable to Bassetlaw District Council — rear elevations, courtyards and flat roofs are generally easier than anything facing the square. Relocating a unit is more than unbolting it: pipework has to be recovered, re-run and pressure tested, and the system properly recommissioned. We will look at what is achievable, tell you what needs consent, and quote it per site rather than per guess.

What's the difference between a single-split and multi-split system? +
A single-split has one indoor unit connected to one outdoor unit. A multi-split connects several indoor units to one outdoor unit, so it cools multiple rooms. Multi-splits take longer to service because every indoor unit is checked and cleaned — which is why they're priced a little higher.
Do you service all makes and models? +
Yes. We are approved service & installation partners for Daikin, Mitsubishi, Fujitsu, Samsung, Hisense, Midea and Bosch, and our F-Gas registered engineers also service all other major brands — Panasonic, LG, Toshiba and more — whether or not we installed the system originally.
