Air conditioning servicing in South Yorkshire
Four boroughs, and a drop of more than 500 metres between the western edge and the eastern one. Sheffield and Barnsley run straight into Peak District moorland; Doncaster sits on drained flat farmland barely above the sea. That is roughly forty miles, and it is the sharpest contrast anywhere we work. Servicing follows the ground.

Approved installer & service partner for

Genuine manufacturer parts · Warranty-safe servicing · Trained to manufacturer specification
A thorough service, not a quick once-over
Every ArcticNord maintenance visit follows a full manufacturer-aligned checklist to keep your system efficient, safe and reliable.
Full system inspection
Indoor and outdoor units checked for wear, corrosion, leaks and damage, with a clear written report on system health.
Deep clean & filters
Filters cleaned or replaced and coils, fans and grilles cleaned to restore airflow, efficiency and hygienic air quality.
Refrigerant leak check
An electronic leak detector is passed over the joints, valves and coils to find refrigerant escaping long before you would notice it. Charge is confirmed by temperature split across the coils — we do not connect gauges to a sealed system as a matter of routine.
Electrical & controls test
Connections, contactors and controls tested for safe operation; thermostat and remote settings checked and calibrated.
Drainage & leak prevention
Condensate drains cleared and tested to prevent water leaks, damp and mould — a common cause of breakdowns.
Service report & advice
You receive a documented report with any recommendations, so you always know the condition of your system.
What we actually find in South Yorkshire
Gritstone above, brick terraces below
On the high western side — Stocksbridge, Penistone, the Barnsley uplands and the moorland-edge villages of west Sheffield — the stock is stone: gritstone cottages with thick solid walls, small openings and no cavity, and large Victorian and Edwardian stone villas through Sheffield's western suburbs, many in conservation areas where visible external plant is scrutinised. Drop into the Don and Dearne valleys and it changes completely to dense red-brick terraces and interwar and post-war ex-colliery estates, physically small former mining communities repeated over and over across Barnsley and Rotherham. Sheffield city centre and Kelham Island add converted mills and new-build apartments, where units go on balconies, in light wells or on shared roofs and access has to be arranged rather than assumed. Three quite different jobs, all within one metropolitan county.
Advanced manufacturing west, logistics east
Advanced manufacturing is the defining sector on the Sheffield and Rotherham side — the Advanced Manufacturing Park at Waverley and the University of Sheffield's AMRC anchor a cluster of engineering firms, research halls and precision workshops, where cooling protects equipment and processes rather than just people. Doncaster is a major logistics centre, so the eastern end brings large distribution sheds with attached offices, server rooms and driver facilities. Between the two, the Don Valley corridor carries industrial estates, trade counters and workshops. Sheffield city centre and the borough centres add offices, universities, hospitality and retail, and the smaller former mining towns run ordinary high-street trade — shops, salons, takeaways, pubs, surgeries. What a Waverley research office needs from a service visit and what a Barnsley barber needs are not comparable, and we do not pretend otherwise.
Wet moors, dry levels, one county
From Bilsthorpe the eastern half is straightforward — Doncaster and the A1 corridor are an easy run, Rotherham and the Dearne not much more. Sheffield's western suburbs and the moorland edge take noticeably longer. Weather follows the same line. The western moors above 500 metres are among the wettest and snowiest parts of England outside Cumbria, with long heating seasons and hard conditions on any external unit, while the Humberhead Levels around Thorne are comparatively dry and mild. The Don Valley in between is sheltered and holds heat well into a summer evening, which is why cooling loads there behave more like the East Midlands than the Pennines.

Re-gas & leak repair
Not cooling like it used to? Your system may be low on refrigerant.
£358.80 including VAT
Final price depends on refrigerant type & amount — confirmed before any work begins.
Your visit includes:
- Full electronic leak detection
- Existing gas recovered & system re-gassed to spec
- Strength (pressure) test & leak test carried out
- Leak repaired or parts quoted before any work
- F-Gas compliant handling & paperwork
Good to know before you book a re-gas
Refrigerant work must be done by an F-Gas certified engineer — it's illegal to buy refrigerant or attempt this yourself.
R22 systems (pre-2010) can't legally be recharged — virgin R22 is banned. We'll advise on reclaimed-gas repair, conversion, or replacement.
Lost charge on a fairly new system (2–5 yrs)? It's often an installation defect that may be covered under the installer's workmanship warranty — we'll help you check first.
Prices can rise during summer heatwaves and for hard-to-reach outdoor units (upper floors, brackets).
All "+ VAT" prices have VAT added at 20%. Commercial systems, VRV/VRF, refrigeration and chillers are quoted individually — call us for a tailored price.

A neglected system costs more than a serviced one
Clean filters and correct refrigerant levels keep efficiency high — a dirty, undercharged system works harder and costs more to run.
Most failures are predictable. Regular checks catch small faults before they become expensive, mid-heatwave emergencies.
Servicing removes the dust, bacteria and mould that build up in filters and drains, protecting indoor air quality.
Many manufacturer warranties require annual servicing. Commercial systems also carry F-Gas legal obligations we handle for you.

Air conditioning servicing FAQs
Sheffield's west side is practically in the Peak District — do you still cover it? +
We do, and it is a longer visit than a Doncaster one. The moorland-edge suburbs and villages above Sheffield and Stocksbridge take real time to reach from Bilsthorpe, and winter weather up there can affect access, so we book that work into planned days rather than treating it as a rapid-response area. The equipment needs more attention as well — driven rain, wind and snow are harder on outdoor units at that height, so we check mountings, drainage and casing condition more closely than we would on a sheltered valley site.
Do you cover South Yorkshire? +
Yes — ArcticNord services air conditioning throughout South Yorkshire, including Sheffield, Rotherham, Doncaster, Barnsley, Mexborough and Maltby. Call us and we'll book a visit that suits you.
How often should air conditioning be serviced? +
For most homes and offices, once a year is recommended to maintain efficiency, hygiene and reliability. Systems used heavily, or in dusty or commercial environments, may benefit from twice-yearly attention — which is what our AC Complete plan provides: a full service before summer and a shorter performance check before winter.
What does the £119 service include? +
The £119 + VAT (£142.80 including VAT) single-split visit covers a full inspection of the indoor and outdoor units, filter cleaning or replacement, coil and grille cleaning, an electronic refrigerant leak check, a temperature-split performance check, electrical and control testing, condensate drain clearing, and a written service report with any recommendations.
How is a multi-split system priced? +
A multi-split service is £164 + VAT (£196.80 including VAT), which covers up to 2 indoor units. Each additional indoor unit is £45 + VAT (£54 including VAT). We'll confirm the exact total based on how many indoor units your system has before any work begins.
What's the difference between a single-split and multi-split system? +
A single-split has one indoor unit connected to one outdoor unit. A multi-split connects several indoor units to one outdoor unit, so it cools multiple rooms. Multi-splits take longer to service because every indoor unit is checked and cleaned — which is why they're priced a little higher.
Do you service all makes and models? +
Yes. We are approved service & installation partners for Daikin, Mitsubishi, Fujitsu, Samsung, Hisense, Midea and Bosch, and our F-Gas registered engineers also service all other major brands — Panasonic, LG, Toshiba and more — whether or not we installed the system originally.
Can I pay monthly instead of all at once? +
Yes. Our care plans spread the cost from £10.99 + VAT (£13.19 including VAT) a month and include priority booking and discounted repairs, so you never face a single large bill — or forget to book your service.
Do you cover commercial and refrigeration systems? +
Absolutely. ArcticNord maintains commercial air conditioning, VRV/VRF systems, chillers and refrigeration, including F-Gas leak testing and logbook records to keep you legally compliant. Contact us for a tailored maintenance contract.
